PSA: Don’t Leave Your Cannabis Products in the Car!

Temperatures affect the quality of your cannabis products, by leaving them in your car without much thought you risk losing the quality or worse, ruining the product! With high temperatures in Las Vegas during the summer and early fall, you might leave your car momentarily to stop into a store and come back to find melted cannabis gummies or that your product has degraded.

How Does Cannabis Degrade?

Cannabis can easily become compromised and degrade when exposed to different environments. It’s worth knowing how this is caused and what elements can cause it so you can avoid it in the future. Light can be one of the biggest influences on damaging your cannabis because those UV rays can damage the terpenes and cannabinoids. That’s why it’s important to avoid storing your cannabis within direct view of sunlight. Air and the oxygen levels in which your cannabis is subjected to can also speed up the degradation of the flower. Moisture in the air, like high humidity levels, can even cause mold and mildew to form on the bud and that’s not something you want to happen. You want to keep your cannabis dry, but not too dry that it causes your cannabinoids or terpenes to degrade.

And finally, there’s temperature. If you’re storing the cannabis in a room that’s simply too hot you can dry out the flower. This can end up distorting the flavor of cannabis as well as make it produce unnecessary smoke in the process.

Storing Your Cannabis & What Not To Do

Mistakes can happen when it comes to storing your cannabis and so you should know what to do and what not to do. Gummies are okay to store in a refrigerator, but remember that your refrigerator can fluctuate temperature and experience changes in humidity levels. You want to store your cannabis flower in a plastic container or bag for short-term solutions only. Also, be sure to store your cannabis away from electronics as these can unknowingly give off heat that can cause your cannabis to dry out if you’re not careful.

When you know what to avoid, you can focus on the best ways to store your cannabis. Find areas in your home that are dark and cool. Store your cannabis in glass mason jars, rather than in anything plastic. That way, the air-tight containers will ensure that you keep the life of the cannabis for as long as possible.
